Henny! Loved this but also have we talked about our Ithaca connection??? I also went to college in Ithaca! Were you south hill or east hill (I’m betting east.)
Right, how is it possible to lump people born at the same time into the same personality type. I know technology shapes us, but I was born at the tail end of a generation and didn’t identify with people twenty years older. BTW ditto to astrology.
Oh CK that was a great comment, thanks! I talk to my friends a lot about that…but never put the connection together….silent majority and the name of my publication. You’ve got me thinking!!
Henny - I say this respectfully and as someone who has absolutely enjoyed connecting with you here on Substack and also feels often like part of a silent middle of things - It's easy to be grumpy about labels and acronyms when you aren't part of a marginalized group. I say this as a middle-aged white man, because for us it feels like we are constantly playing catch up, always uncomfortable in a fast-paced society. BUT for those folks who get to finally see themselves as part of something, it's simply about being seen. I really don't believe that for most it is about self-importance. I especially see this with kids as a public school educator. For example, the LGB --> LGBT --> LGBTQ and so forth. This is about the evolution of acceptance. In an American society that feels increasingly hostile toward outsiders, I believe every little way we can help those individuals feel included is important. If that means recognizing a new letter in an acronym that really doesn't impact me negatively in any way, I'm Ok with it. Just my two cents, for whatever that's worth. And with inflation, probably not much!
That was funny as hell! I needed that, thanks Henny :)
Thanks William!!!
It’s always appropriate to slip in a Caddyshack reference - kudos!

We have not - very cool! If you placed any money on your bet you’d have lost 🤣. South hill. You?
This is why I don’t gamble. I’m south hill tooooooooooo!!!
Well how about that!! I was there from fall of 96-Dec 98. Then back to coach in 99. How about you?
Just missed you! I was there slightly before!

Silliness in my opinion
I love your captioned photos, they fit perfectly.
Thanks Henny Sr!
Funny facts. Everything has become so extreme. Most people are in the middle but they are the SILENT majority. So that label actually remains.

Here to help.

Thanks so much for the comment Tim! Your response is one of the things I really enjoy about Substack. Thoughtful dialogue…who would’ve thunk it?!
